Girlfriend

Thank goodness for girlfriends. I have been home sick for the last two days. Yesterday one of my best gal pals called, not knowing that I wasn't feeling well. When she found out she said she'd be over in just a minute to drop of a good chick-flick to keep me company. She was a life saver, its just the pick up I needed after a long lonely day in bed. 27 dresses was darling! If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. Mike even tolerated it, he usually makes fun of every part of a chick flick the whole way through. I can't remember the last time I actually got to enjoy one enough to even get emotional at the end. Darn him! Shout out to my gal pal for being so generous, and making me feel so special.

Take me out to the ball game

Tomorrow night is softball night, yay, it's been a fun season for Mike and his team. So far this year they are undefeated. Way to go men! I've really enjoyed watching him play this year and seeing him have so much fun. The team is hilarious and if you sit close enough to the bench, you can hear them poking fun at each others mishaps through the game. Nola and I yell, We want a pitcher, not a belly itcher. Mike's new position this year. Mike and some friends on the team got down to they're designing roots, apparently inspired by working at Kohls so long now, and drew up some blue prints for the team baseball cap. Check it out, it's "Juiced" the team name. A spin off of the steroid controversies in Major league baseball last year. It looks somewhat like a Sunkist's logo, with the 'I' in JuIced as a syringe and the softball as an orange in the background. They were so proud of how creative they thought they were.
So onto Mike's new "DO" ( I'm really loving quotes around "everything" in this post). The other day he tells me, " I think I want to try to grow my hair out...like Zack Morris in the college days" I laughed out loud, why Zack Morris specifically? Could it have something to do with the fact that we watch Saved by the Bell most every morning as we're getting ready. Possibly? I just thought it so interesting that he actually thought that out by himself. He also told me he thinks it looks good coming out from under his hat, see the "wing" formation right over his ears, that's what he likes. So enjoy these baseball/hairdo pics of my Zack Morris look alike hubby, hey maybe i should start growing my hair out like Kelly Kapowski.Bangs, I don't know....

Unfortunately he cut it, before we could really get a good look, there was too much ridicule going on amongst the co-workers.

Sore Tummies :(

Her womanhood has been removed. This past week Nola had her spay surgery. My poor little pup could hardly walk Friday night. She lay here on her pillow bed from 4:30p until the next morning. She looks so uncomfortable, but still I thought she was so cute. When Mike got home from Golfing with some buddies, she was so excited she just wagged her little tail without moving any other muscle, so he would see she was trying to welcome him home for the day. She also had to have her Dewclaws removed, so she had these super sweet green wraps to protect them for the first day. At least she was pretty drugged up. She looked like she was having a hard time keeping her eyelids open. To top it all off, I noticed that she lost TWO TEETH this same week. So we are having a week of sore thumbs, tummies and new bigger teeth. Hang in there Nola.

The neverending project.

This awful bathroom is just about to due me in for home renovating projects. We have been working on it since the end of NOVEMBER. Super frustrating! And it's just one suprise after another as far as it goes. Nothing is going smoothly for this room, and it's the SMALLEST one in our house! I feel like I have used this many brushes just in it! Mike just went to buy some more. UGGGG!

The Spencer family is growing

Yes it's finally happened. After months of looking and studying up on what to be prepared for Mike and I "did it"...no not that, get your mind out of the gutter! We adopted a puppy! This actually happened 2 months ago for Easter. Mike had heard about this puppy who was rescued by a Purdue Nursing student. She and her friends went to New Orleans for their spring break to help build some homes for Habitat for Humanity. While they were there they rescued a litter of puppies from being drowned in a river. The family who had the litter of puppies said whatever they couldn't find homes for, they would drowned to avoid overpopulation. So SAD! Well luckily this kind hearted student decided she and her friends would bring the puppies home and find them good families. We instantly fell in love with this tiny affectionate little pup! Her name is Nola, for New Orleans LouisiAnna...her home town. She is the love of our lives! I can't believe how quickly we got attached. Every morning she greets us with lots of excitement. She wags her tail so hard that her whole bum wiggles, we call it the "Waggle". She is just the smartest dog. We have been taking the puppy training classes at Petsmart since we brought her home. Our trainer Amy is always amazed at how fast she picks things up. Graduation was this week, and hallelujah she passed! We had to sit and stay for 20 sec, walk without pulling on the leash, pass up a treat when told to "leave it", come when called, and do a trick. We practiced extra hard this week. So meet our newest addition Nola Spencer. And check out her new tricks. Roll over, and scratch Dad's back (Mike's real proud of this one)

The "Overnighter"

So this last weekend Mike and I decided that we would go camping for a short trip during my May break. He researched some local spots and found a campsite in the North portions of Kettle Moraine. It was right on a lake, with lots of amenities...showers, playground for the kids, hookups if you have a camper, and electricity. Pretty cushy if you ask either one of us, but it was one of the only ones open so early in the year(there is a wise reason for that, it's still freakin freezing out here) We had a blast setting up our little campsite and headed down to the lake to do some fishing. You can see here how fruitful it was...
Actually, Mike did catch a large Northern Pike, it broke his 6lb line when he was bringing it out of the water and onto the dock and took our cute yellow and orange glitter lure. Oh well. We had delicious tin foil dinners that night, they are so wonderfully easy and so yummy. For desert a friend told me to try "dough boys". It was a great suggestion, Mike and I are now big fans!!To make them you use refrigerated biscuit dough, roast it like a mallow and then dip in butter and cinnamon sugar, they were amazing!!
Nola had a blast in the woodsy environment, you'd think she had died and gone to doggy heaven with the plethora of things to chew on. Here she is, our little Lumber Jack. It was like she wouldn't bother with anything that wasn't 3 times her size. After a freezing night's sleep, Mike made the executive decision to not stay a second night. So we ended our camping weekend early and went home to see "IRON MAN" in the comfort of a warm movie theater. This camping experience was a great appetizer for what we both hope will be a more filling camping summer. Doesn't our tent look like Darth Vader?

Camping here we come

We're getting ready for our first ever camping trip together! I just love camping. My family would take 3 or so camping trips every summer since I can remember. Now all of my extended family has these beautiful trailers they live luxuriously in for the week, and my immediate fam are the only ones still truckin' it in the traditional tent...but isn't that what camping is really about?! I can't wait! Mike and I bought this huge 7 man tent yesterday. Come on, it has to fit my airmattress. I'll hopefully post some pictures this weekend.

My Hunk of a Husband

So I just finished another round of Finals this last week. PHEW! I'm so done with this semester, for some reason when I started Dental School all the upperclassmen told me if I made it through the first year, then it would all get easier from there...big FAT lie! This year has definitely been the hardest on me. I love being in the clinic and have done really well in all of my manikin exams, so I thought once I was doing more of what I love that the school part would be less stressful. But I've discovered that trying to study for classes, be my own secretary, office manager, and assistant was just a different kind of stress. Needless to say I'm still so happy to be in dental school right now. I can't believe that I only have one year left.

This weekend to celebrate, Mike told me to come home and get ready quickly on Friday, that we'd be going out! Hhhmmm?! Going out? We've gone out to eat for the end of most finals weeks, but this time it was different. Mike said I needed to be ready by 6:30 for our 7:00 reservation. RESERVATIONs!!!! The word made my heart beat faster. For those of you who know Mike he is not one to spend any $$$ on a fancy dinner, it's not practical you know, so this was a big deal. We ended up going to this fabulous new steakhouse in Brookefield, Flemings. I know there has been a Flemings in Utah for a while now, but we just got one here in the last year or so. When we got there we were happily greeted by the hostess. She asked us if we had ever been to Flemings before and assured us that we would have a "fabulous" evening. As she pulled out my chair for me she offered a black cloth napkin, instead of the standard white cloth napkin sitting in front of me. This was just in case I didn't want it to leave any white lint on my dark pants. Pretty awesome! Our waitress quickly brought the olive bruschetta and cheese spread starter to our table and explained the menu. I ordered a Fillet Mignon and Mike got the New York Strip (most bang for you buck). My heart sunk just a little as I looked at the price, I even felt a little sick, but Mike didn't even shrug at it. We ordered two sides; the Flemings potatoes, (cheese, jalapenos, and cream) and grilled asparagus with roasted red peppers. What an exciting date night! I was so proud of my husband for doing something totally out of his personality to surprise me! Way to go honey!!!

Finally

Yippy!!!!! I'm a blogger...Well I don't know if I really deserve a "blogger" title just yet. I've been wanting to start a blog now for months and I've been blog stocking all my friends now for too long...I can loose myself reading for many hours that should have been used studying. I've even thought multiple times about what I would write about if I had one of my own. I just wasn't sure if I was committed enough to participate regularly. Well today I got together with some of my Wisconsin girlfriends to learn how to make the most decadent Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake in the WORLD (which I will talk about shortly) !! While we were waiting for the cheesecakes to bake, and discussing the addictive nature of blogs, my friend Karen decided I needed to start mine right then. So we jumped online and the next thing you know, I have a darling new blog affectionatly named "Tooths of Wisdom", aauuhhh, I love it! (thanks Karen for lending me some of your whitty naming skills.) Now I just have to work on my writing skills. I've never liked writing much, I was a math and science nerd growing up and always struggled expressing myself in writing, but ask me to tell you about an anatomy topic or do your algebra homework and my eyes will light up! I sometimes envy those who are so creative in the ways they describe everyday activities. So this will be great practice for me. Not to mention I've been wanting to keep a family record of what goes on in our lives here in Wisconsin. Mike and I are the only ones here in the frozen Midwest, and I think this is a fun way for me to share what we are up to so far away from home. That's just a short start on getting to know me.

So back to the cheesecake...It has a shortbread crust (who doesn't love the buttery flavor and texture), topped with a Caramel and pecan layer and the chocolate cheesecake finishes it off. A girlfriend from my old singles ward made it for this last Thanksgiving. She said she researched like 6 different recipes and compiled them to make this most amazing desert, it totally blows Cheesecake Factory out of the water. This cheesecake is not for the faint of heart, just one slice may make your wide leg jeans look like skinnies. We even added butter to the shortbread! In the 3 cheesecakes we made we used 9, yea NINE packages of philadephia cream cheese. The sad part is it has to refridgerate over night, and it's Fast Sunday tommorrow. So you know I'll be hoovering it down when we get home from afternoon church! Luckily, Linda and I vowed to split a cheesecake between our families. I can't wait for tomorrow!
