Daddy-o

I have to give a huge shout out to my Dad. I was walking out to the parking lot today after school when I ran into one of the Residents. He was leaning on his car furiously thumbing through the owners manual and standing next to a very flat tire. I rolled down my window to ask if he needed help..."No I can figure it out"...Yeah right it sure didn't look like he was going to figure it out any time soon and it was starting to rain. So I pulled over in a slot close by and got out to help him. We got the equipmeCheck Spellingnt out; wrench, jack, spare, and I started cranking on the lugnuts....in a voice not more than a whisper he says "Please at least let me to the hard work, I feel like a looser with you out here changing my tire," and he hands me the owners manual. It was clear he didn't want anyone to see this scene...a 6'8" male resident having a 5'6" female D4 changing his tire for him.

So I stepped back and just lead him through the process. We had it off and change in less than 20 min. The sad part was he had already call a couple of his Resident classmates to see if they could help, and all of them said " Sorry man, we don't have AAA." Really, not one of those guys could come help him, I couldn't believe that. I had so much appreciation and pride for my Dad doing a fantastic job at being a dad. It was so important to him to teach me how to change a tire when I got my license and I have to say it has come in handy on more than one occasion. I actually have another funny story when my best friend Jen and I went to visit one of our best buds at his fraternity in Indiana in college. On our way to the airport our driver hit the curb and popped the tire, the 4 boys with us were all flustered about what to do and Jen got to work before they even knew what was happening. So Holla at all my girls that can change a tire on their own! You're amazing!! And I love you Daddy!

Way to go! My dad made me learn how to do all that stuff too before I could get my license. I've had to change SO many tires and jump tons of dead batteries--so I'm so grateful I know how! I bet that was a funny sight. Poor, helpless, clueless man.

I guess I know who I'm calling from now on!

Way to show him, Jess! My Dad was the same way - I'm so glad I can read that and say, "Yeah, I can do that too!" Travis had a chuckle too since obviously he can identify who you were helping based on the 6'8"

Hey, I just found your blog. :) I, too, can relate to your blog. I had to change a flat tire on the way to my brother's wedding and I was in a dress because my cousin didn't have a clue. Props to us gals who know what to do!
